2 Hours of Flushing

I will be interested to see what comments are made. I've left 'scoring' on but nearly turned it off.

This is an experiment that went wrong, that is it didn't turn out the way that I intended.

It was intended to show evening drawing in but I took 58 pixel wide sections of pictures and stitched them together with no overlap. This has led to sharp edges. If the comments are vociferous enough then I might try doing it again with overlap, which I now suspect may give me the effect I was imagining.

16:54hrs 37mm F5.6 1/250 100ISO AF 18:47hrs 37mm F3.3 1/4 800ISO MF

I think the change in camera settings during the shooting was a mistake, this has led to inconsitant 'exposure'.

I did also consider doing it with the dark in the middle, but didn’t!

The moving boats were not originally planned.

For the geeks, I created an Excel spreadsheet with the cut points so I just typed it into the fields rather than tried to manipulate to them.

A Wheelie Good Sequence, for Gerald

This is just for you Gerald, and it's for fun!

I do lots and lots of this kind of thing, I drive and take pictures. I noticed the 'Action' folder didn't have a lot in it and thought I'd try something.

While I am on, does anyone know how to get the E1 to track focus something coming towards you in sequential mode? Where I've tried I've had vehicles drive out of focus.

Because I could!

I did this because I could. It is intended to enhance the feeling of the spirit of the season.

Thanks to everyone for a great time on MFT and for all those who put up images that have made me think hard and to those who have taken the time to comment upon my efforts.

Burbush Morning

One of my first pictures taken with the E1. The results did not disappoint and I appeared not to have forgotten, completely, the art of photographyafter a very long break.

Caroline. Both Eyes!

Caroline.

This is one example of how using both eyes allowed me to track the orange ball in my left eye and time the shutter whilst the right eye kept Mr Spin in the camera frame. The ball was thrown by a 'volunteer' from the left, it has not landed at the point the shutter opened. I wasn't particularly pleased with the result, I wanted the ball about 100mm higher. He only did this trick once per show.

Confused? I am http://www.myfourthirds.com/document.php?id=4768

Was posted as an example of what happened in going from 100-800ISO.

The top picture was 14mm 1/20sec F22 -1.3EV 800ISO the bottom picture was 14mm 1/2 sec F22 -1.3EV 100ISO.

So now I am confused. These images were taken about 10 seconds apart. There is no change of colour depth. I have other consecutive images where the only change was the ISO rating and the colours are different. Anyone know what is going on? Does Edwin's comment about auto white balance give a clue?

The insets show the noise taken from the same section of picture.

Edwin is Right http://www.myfourthirds.com/document.php?id=4692

On Blayne's image I made a point that with the subject matter it would conceal the noise that would be evident normally.

As I was in the forest experimenting with F22 and a TRIPOD (!) I thought I'd see the effect of 100ISO vs 800ISO.

The result is a loss of colour depth which is very evident. The noise isn't!

So now I know. There may be circumstances where the higher ISO is necessary but for good colour rendition, avoid it!

Top image 800ISO & 1/13 sec; bottom 100ISO 1/1.6 sec both -0.7EV all other settings identical.

Kerrera

A photo taken from our holiday flat in Oban on the morning of a trip to Mull. A dull day to start but an exciting photographic day!

Looking up, Looking Up

An attempt at the Looking Up competition which I decided I would not enter. I did think it was good fun though!

Queen's Day, Amsterdam

This is just to share the excitement in Amsterdam on Queen's Day.

Custom has it that everyone wears orange and there is a high degree of adherence!

The population of Amsterdam is normally about 730,000 but swells to over 4,000,000 on Queen's Day.

Lots and lots of Heineken, no trouble, just very very friendly people.

It is a special occasion and if you get the opportunity, go!

The Heineken was taken the next day!

PS I've turned off scoring, but it usually continues to permit scoring for reasons I don't understand, something to do with my folder settings.

Tree & Torch

I consider this a failed experiment but I thought I would share anyway.

I illuminated the tree with a 1.5 million candle torch using the bulb facility. I think my tripod is insufficiently rigid to cope with the requirement to hold the button in on bulb. Is there a method of push to open, push to close.

I manually focused on the tree whilst illuminating it before exposure.
