OMD wouldn't stand for Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark would it? ;-)
On a more serious note, I'm getting a E-P3 to keep my Pen FT company and my classic black OM-1 is getting lonely ; I think it needs the OM-D in its company and I may be inclined to indulge once again ... Oly rocks with these retro designs ....Hope they do it right styling wise for I'm a sucker for history and the old nostalgic looks ....Just give me this http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fdigicame-info.com
Time will tell ....Cheers ;-)

If you're dyslexic, OM-D could stand for Oh! My Dog! I wish it was a digital back for my Olympus M cameras. Now that would be revolutionary.

I'm getting the silver topped one and I don't care who tries to stop me . . . .
But what to do about lenses?

Mike, rumor has it that this m4/3 camera is going to have capability of focusing with both PDAF (phase detection auto focus)lenses like in your 4/3 lenses and CDAF (contrast detection Auto Focus) like the m4/3 cameras use. Of course you would have to use a 4/3 to m4/3 converter. The battery pack might help to balance things out weight and size wise when using 4/3 lenses. Or you could just buy m4/3 lenses. The 75mm f1.8 looks very tempting.

Yep, i don't have a nice prime so I might buy it with that. I hope the AF works. Buying another 12-50/60 and another 9-18 would be a pain. And they don't have an MF 50-200 which I use more and more.

Noise test
Check out the high ISO tests on DPReview, pretty impressive if you ask me.

I got mine May 3rd (Henry's Toronto)
I got my OM-D a few hours ago (May 3rd), black body-only with grip & MMF-3. I admit I wanted the silver (old school) version, but I couldn't wait and had to be the first to own one.

Great Mike, personally I would get the black body even though I have the original silver OM-1 film camera, to me the all black body looks much nicer. Do you mean you got the MMF-2 adapter? I don't see anything listed for MMF-3. I would be very interested in knowing how the regular 4/3 lenses work on the OM-D and how well it balances with using the grip. Thanks Mike

I do see the MMF-3 adapter now, it wasn't shown on the Olympus America website. I have the MMF-1 adapter, I don't think I will run out and buy the MMF-3 for the weather sealing until I see how well it works on 4/3 lenses, maybe never. So many toys so little money.

Got the silver one now too!
In addition to the black body only I mentioned above, a couple of days ago I picked up a used (46 shots) silver one with black 12-50mm lens, because I really wanted the silver one.
To me the rubber/plastic coating on the black version feels like a knurled material, and if I rub my finger across it, it makes my skin crawl (I can't stand touching sandpaper either).
Mike Fellhauer ¤1 at 12:48 EDT on 2012-Jun-08 [Reply]
No, I'm not selling!
I got an email request asking if I wanted to sell the black body now that I got the silver. For the record I'm keeping BOTH.

Once more into the breech
What with corporatec scandals and abandonmentment of Fourthirds pro-spec SLR system development, I decided a few months ago that, after almost 40 years of Olympus loyalty, and being an Olympus brand ambassador in Australia, I will abandon Olympus. I'm going to full frame to pursue fine art and large prints. My biggest regret about the decision was that I have a significant investment in ZD glass. Love the lenses. The OM-D has been announced with a sweetener in Oz that Olympus will give a free MF-3 adaptor with every OM-D purchased before 30 June. My black OM-D (OM-4 Ti !!!) and 12-50 lens arrives this week. I'm happy that my investment in ZD glass can be preserved for a few years while I go to FF.

Supposed to be anouther FourThirds soon
Olympus reps have said tere will be another Four Thirds camera announced later this year. Their reason is they have all the glass, so they need a bdy to take advantage of it.
Mike Fellhauer ¤1 at 06:10 EDT on 2012-Jun-28 [Reply]
That would make sense...
...but Olympus doesn't have a good track record of doing things that make sense to long suffering loyal users. My investment in 4/3 stopped with E-3 in 2008. For me, there's been nothing compelling in their announcements since - until the OM-D. So far, my opinion of my OM-D is that it's fantastic. I will continue to get value from my investment in 4/3 glass because of it. But I will still buy into a full frame system to do stuff that micro fourthirds isn't as well suited to.

I too am abandoning Olympus. It is a shame that I adore the 7-14mm lens so much but there is not a camera with high enough ISO performance to take advantage of the glass. I will keep the lens and use it when I want that super wide angle of view. But full frame is the way to go for me at this time and I will keep my 4/3s to use as a reasonably capable toy. Then again, I may sell the 7-14mm lens and get a Sony NEX-7 for my toy.

Edwin, I recently took some shots with the new E-M5 at ISO 3200. From a noise pov, they turned out great - a little work with a de-noise program and they look like ISO 200. Haven't tried ISO 6400 yet, but who knows, it might be OK. (I know you won't get the performance of a full frame DSLR, and you can't shoot at ISO 25,600, but it might be good enough to keep the 7-14 for casual use.) Cheers

I went to full frame and came back again. The OM-D out performs the Sony a850 to my eyes at high ISO. Of course, there are many reasons to change format and systems, but right now Olympus are in the groove for me.
