The lighting is superb - especially the sun rays on the right. It's amazing those same two gulls from "searching the wash" posed for this photo too--LOL. Nicely composed. :-)

everything about this is stunning. You wouldn't have any trouble selling this photo in the tourist shops on the Seattle waterfront.

How did you do it!!! Gr8 shot here, I would just loose the white boarder. It really distracts from the light... Otherwise gr8 seeing and PS.

Were you on shore?

your last post was already stunning. This one even tops it - light (rays) and color give it that extra oomph

Wow! I like this one even better than the first, everything is just perfect here, the sun rays, the gulls, the clouds, the surf, the sprays, nice nice nioe Rob. I wonder if you bring out the rock in the bottom right would it enhance the photo even more? Just a thought! not a sermon :D

Thank you everyone...

...for your kind comments on this composite image.

  • Doug - I keep these birds in a cage and release them when I need their contribution. ;-)
  • Clayton - thanks for the idea. I'll try it at the local artist markets.
  • Wolfgang - the sea is a source of endless fascination for me. I enjoy it most when the weather is rough.
  • Jeff - I like it with both white and black borders. Both have their advantages. I shot from on shore - from a patch of rock that affords a view along the coast.
  • Klaus - I've played with it some more since posting. Added a cormorant on a rock, drying its wings.
  • Qvee - All ideas are welcome. I'm one who likes rich shadows. In the club movement here in Oz we so often here judges say "I'd like to see more detail in the shadows." I ask "why". Dark shadows enhance mood. What's so important about seeing detail in heavy shadows? I think it's a throw-back to wet darkrrom days when showing detail in the shadows was an indicator of good printing technique - technical competence. I'm more interested in expressive competence. ...not a sermon! :-)
  • Chris - thank you.
  • Bram - That's kind of you but timing was not a challenge with this technique!
  • Tom and Paul - thank you.
