I like this Caroline. Very nice indeed. It evokes a favorable comparison to Japanese prints for some reason within me. I think this could be usefully explored further.

John: I think I know what you mean. Before I ended up with this I also had a version which was brighter/lighter, but I thought it was too nice/cute. I just didn’t manage to get enough brilliance without it getting too nice/cute.

Michael: Batik – I didn’t think of that, but when you mention it I remember that I once bought a sarong in Malaysia which looked not very different from this. Same colours – it must have been there at the back of my mind as I choose these colours and not something completely different.

Eugene: Thanks for encouragement. :-) I had expected that the members of MFT would say this is not photography. To me it is, but I usually don’t like doing things like this. And very often I think the results are quite poor (both when I do it and when others do it). This one I like myself, but I think that the main reason why I like it is that I’ve tried so many times this autumn to take pictures of leaves. I just don’t get the pictures right – they get too blurry, too messy, wrong colours, lack details… you name it. Now all the leaves are gone with the wind and this was sort of trying to “rescue” one of the pictures. Besides I’m trying to teach myself PS now. I prefer spending time outdoor taking pictures to staying indoor struggling with PS. But then I thought that one reason why I should wish all I had to do with pictures were adjustment of levels, resize, USM and save is that I’m not good enough – that I wouldn’t hate PS as much as I do if I was better at it. :-)

rescueing "old" pictures. thats what i do from time to time. looking old shots and getting new views and ideas. almost sure there are a few worth working on them especially since i shoot in raw.

Thanks for the link Michael. :-) It looks good for basic stuff and I like how I can click buttons to see how a picture changes according to what has been done to it.

Ah I forgot to mention that in my (limited) experience it’s not really worth the effort/work trying to rescue pictures unless the composition is good and it’s sharp (well – of course it’s always worth a try if it is a picture which means something to you – a nice memory, a special picture of family, friends and such). In general I think it’s better to use pictures which are good from the start for manipulations. But of course, no rule without an exception. :-)

What I said about the other one applies to this too, possibly more so.
