Neither, BUT...

...the camera club I belong to (Toronto Camera Club) has their own gallery in the building where there are photo exhibitions, and the entrance to my office is located in the gallery, so while I do walk through one regularly I neither "visit" a gallery or an exbition!

This poll reminds me of the time when I was in art school...

After each major holiday period we were asked the same questions: which exhibitions did we see and could we tell about the visit. My answer was always the same: "No, I didn't visit any exhibition and I intend to keep it that way."

I guess it was a reaction against the 'looking, stealing and copying' mentality that was so common at art schools at the time. I just wanted to go my own way without being influenced by how others went about it or by 'how it should be'...

That explains why, until a year ago, I didn't even know who Ansel Adams was... ;o)

My wife and I spent a little time in Paris last summer. We spent an obligatory afternoon at the Louvre, but I really enjoyed the paintings by Monet at the Musee de L'Orangerie

both

I travel to NYC on a fairly regular basis to visit both galleries and see museum photo exhibits. After all, you are what you eat - although some might opine that it ain't what you eat, it's the way how you chew it.

I visited Michael Kenna's exhibition in Monterey last year (http://www.michaelkenna.net/) but came away a bit disappointed for I had high expectations due to his work on the web: the images are small overall and the quality lacking on prints; perhaps one would be satisfied with that quality in the 60s or even 70s, but compared to today's output they really pale ...an unfair comparison? it could be that they didn't have access to his best work? anyway I wish I didn't go so I can still keep that better impression of his work in my head ...cheers ;-))
