The composition...

is striking, Robert, but ice/snow should be white, shouldnt' it? :o)

I'll bet an adjustment to the color temp and a bit if USM would bring out a lot of hidden beauty...

Robert, There is an easy way to adjust this if you use photoshop.

Under "Layer", choose "New Adjustment Layer", and select Curves. When the curves window shows up, click on "Auto". You will see a better white balance. You can tweak from there.

Of course, there are other ways to fix this. Maybe you have done that already.

I agree with Monica here. I LOVE this sort of image, but the WB seems way off. I put this in PS and simply applied "auto color" and the whites became white and revealed the colors under the ice near the bottom.

I see nothing wrong with the color. Ice should be blue. :-)

I agree with Clayton, The blue conveys cold, just as sepia tone in photos brings a sence of warmth. Although it may not be an accurate white balance if you look at snow in the shadows it does have a blue cast to it. Although this is more than a blue cast I think the blue does covey cold.

Hey robert, it is all in the eye of the beholder. You have a very good compo in this and it has lots of potential. I do agree with edwin that a bit of tweaking with the wb would bring out more detail in the depth of the crystals and give an opportunity to make the ice sparkle so to speak, without detracting from the feeling of cold. good image.

have a good day.

Good discussion, I would keep the blue but saturate up the orange/yellow to bring the second color out more.

Thank you for commenting Monica... you are absolutely correct... the ice and snow was white... I added "a little blue" to make it colder... Bob

Thank you for commenting Clayton. I thought the ice should be blue as well... maybe not this blue but I was trying something a little different for me.. Bob

Thanks George... as I mentioned above I was stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something different... the ice really was a combination of off-white and some white... Photoshop, Lightroom and I added a little adjustment. Bob
