Hi michael ...

long time no see, and glad to see you posting again. Have just today purchased a small book with a collection of great jazz pictures from Ed van der Elsken (sure you know him), funny, isnīt it? But Your pictures have no need to hide behind hims. Like very much the composition here and the concentration in his facial expression.

Best wishes,

As Horst says, it's all about the expression - the concentration and "feel" of this artist is tangible. Composed superbly, and the background sufficiently out of focus to not be distracting. The conversion, as ever, is spot on, smooth yet contrasty with plenty of punch. I'd be hard pushed to say I've seen better music photography than yours Michael.

Nice one

Andy

Yes there is enough context to explain the look on hs face, but personally I find myself wanting to see his right hand as well. So I'm curious what others think about that, especially the musicians.

thanks Horst,
yes, long time no see. decided to only post now and then due to
the community culture nowadays.
know some of Ed van der Elsken's photos. his work is barely to find.
LOL nice coincidence you bought the Jazz book of van der Elsken
and I posted another on stage shot :)

and thanks Andy,
it's all about expression: that's the challenge of capturing musicians.
very rare shots of mine are usually good enough to suit my own demands.
always depending on the event, the line up and my ability ;)

also thanks Chris,
you're asking for a quite different shot ;)
personally love those shots that are as close as possible with as much (less)
context as needed to get the connection what instrument the musician is playing.
but am curious as well what the musicians here think...
