Sri Kamadchi Ampal Temple Festival

the annual temple festival takes place at europes biggest
south-indian temple in Hamm-Uentrop/Germany.
ten-thousands of hindus from all over europe were worshipping the goddess
Sri Kamadchi Ampal by celebrating with public processions and poojas (divine services).

the big parade starts with smashing coconuts on the ground as sacrificial offerings.
men (kavadi dancer) are dancing in a hypnotic trance to the rhythm of drums,
women carry bowls with glowing coal and smelling incense.
a big wagon (theer) pompously decorated is pulled through the streets by men
and women separated right and left side.
the whole festival takes 12 days and the big procession day is the highlight.

The energy and movement in this one is really quite good.

Don't know what happened there, my comment went before I was finished.

I also wanted to say that compositionally I think this is good because of the relative position of all the arms and their similar directional positioning. A very nice essay.

thanks Doro, hoped to give an insight in the festivity...
unfortunately because of slow moving traffic I arrived a bit late and missed some other rituals.
so much going on there. one can't be everywhere at the same time...
and I left out the whole indian market (in the essay) taking place nearby.
enough stuff for own series.
