You got..

lot's of depth and detail in that water Ben, I'll bet if the image was posted larger (900x472) and had a USM applied, I would feel like wiping off my screen! :o)

Just a thought...

You would need quite a thirst to drink this lot Jeff. Might be a bit sandy as well!

That's much better...

Now we can see the detail and depth of that sloshing around...

I generally apply USM twice to an image that is very soft or that I want to punch up as much as possible; after editing, and before I resize an image I apply USM with an Amount between 75-150%, a Radius of .9-1.3 pixels, and a Threshold of 1. After resizing, I sharpen one more time with an Amount between 75-125%, a Radius of .5 pixels and a Threshold of 1. These numbers are variable depending on the texture and detail of the image, as well as your own preferences...

These are just some experimental techniques I started with...you'll find just the right one for you...:o)

USM has to do with sharpening. What exactly does the acronym stand for? Thanks.

Geno,

it paradoxically stands for 'unsharp mask'

Great shot that conveys the fomenting waters over there. I have been listening to the reports of it on the radio today.

Hope all you folks over there are safe and sound!

Thanks for the advice Monica, I only usually apply USM to the lightness channel after converting to lab color mode. I can't remember why I do this or where I picked this up!

Sharpening is one of the techneques I need to improve on, got a long list of others.

regards,

ben

Thanks for your concern Eugene, I was working nights when the high tide arrived here ( I work at 1000feet above sea level). There was plenty of warning so we had made every thing safe, others had not. I don't think it was as bad as expected, I have seen bigger tides. Looked good on the beach today with clear blue sky, clear air and big white caps,

regards,

ben
