Trajan's Column
Copyright ©2007, Robert Melnyk HoF ♥ ¤ $1
A small section of a very tall column, erected in 113 AD to celebrate Trajan's victory over the Dacians, the present inhabitants of Romania. 2500 figures in a continuous spiral frieze with vibrant spaces of light, describe the most dramatic moments in the conquest of the barbarians who, even when submitting to Roman military power, kept their dignity. I can see shooting this is tough. Sun washes out the upper left. Shows where a NG filter, maybe two stops or more would really help here.

Bob, this is so interesting. I wish I could see more detail on the lhs. I like the shadows and depth the sun creates, but it might be a bit strong on the left. Although it sure does capture it's brightness.

Thank you Vaggelis... yes, this was a rather difficult shot - it is a beautiful very tall column. The first third was surrounded with scaffolding, and the column supported at the top by cables to keep it steady while all the work / digging continues around it.

Detail
Bob:
This is a good effort which might be improved by a bit of PP.
As othrs have mentioned, the exposure on the left is a bit too high; that on the right pretty good.
But, there appears to be deiial on the left that might be brought out by using a "curves layer" that darkened just the left part.
I've never seen the subject. But, I used to show a video to students that displayed it almost panel by panel to illustrate Roman military technology.
Best wishes...
joe
