EDIT Function

Thank so much for your tips. As a new comer in MFT, I should know this wonderful function instead of deleting the old submission becasue I have to pay the cost of lossing many treasurable and encouraging words from many of you... Professor, Diver and much more...

you're welcome.

OK. i'll repeat my words: magical. impressive. amazing.

Was wondering what happened to this!

It doesn't lose anything at all on the larger scale. Quite the opposite. Michael has said it all as far as I am concerned. What a simply stunning sight, beautifully well captured.

Best wishes- Andy

I don't want to seem like a curmudgeon, because I like this shot quite a bit. But it could be improved IMO by masking and relevelling the foreground clouds just a bit. The lower LH corner seems a bit lost in murk to me and the entire photo would be even more effective keyed a little higher to make the clouds appear more ethereal. Lopping 75 (or more) pixels or so off the top could tighten it up a bit as well and make the composition a little less 50/50 static. Finally, although it doesn't work on this low-res image, just a tiny bit of USM applied to the buildings might be a good idea before resizing. Since this tool looks for edges it has no effect on the clouds, but it would more sharply define those towers and make the clouds slipping past them all the more striking.

Art

Wonderful eye, I really like your composition. I am more for the natural look you have achieved here, and like it 'as is'. Keep it up!

This shot remins me of a Lord of the Rings movie. I love the clouds and the way they sort of run downhill. Very nice.

Cur-wha?

Ferd's comment sent me racing for the dictionary!

I've been looking at this pic for a few days and wondering if I should say what I think. To be true to the site and myself, I'm taking courage from Ferd's critique to throw in my two cents.

Bevis, I thinik this is a very good photograph of a spectacular event. With a little work, I think it could be made into a spectacular photo of a spectacular event.

Almost all of the photo looks like it's in heavy shade. I also feel that the lower left is too murky. I see a lot of potential for improving it with some PS work. Yes, lift those building a little as Ferd has suggested. I would also selectively paint some brightness and contrast onto the crest of the 'wave' cloud to carry that sunlight further into the picture. I'd do the same for the tips of the buildings that face the sun. Then I'd jack up the contrast and saturation in the clouds near the sun

Please understand that I'm talking restrained alterations here, not a crass exaggerration of what you saw. I think the changes mentioned would bring it to life.

I struggle to give the photo a 9 in its current form (maybe because I can see so much potential) but I do so because I wouldn't want to drag your average down simply because of my opinion being contrary to so many expressed here.

I hope I don't sound too 'curmudgeonly'.

Kind regards.

Thank You

Thank You for all of your high markings in which I trust I will fall in love with MFT so soon. As also a novice of PS, I see the the need to save some money for the software so as to proceed with the improvement. Thanks for all the comment and the valuable time in consulting dictionary.

Dreamy. Very nice. IMO the dark area at the bottom adds to the atmosphere in the picture.

Btw, is this picture taken in Hong Kong?

Jakob Bentsen ¤ at 03:51 EDT on 2005-May-12 [Reply]

Yes, it is Hong Kong. This kind of cloud is not common.

A simply magical shot Bevis ,...and as Rob says with a bit more work a certain 10

Decent.

This is a decent picture. I guess you got the scenery in hand, and the view isn't your earning.

I'll give you thumbs up for not falling into the temptation of framing the buildings more closley. It's all good that you are taking the picture dead ahead.
