Action!

This shot conveys action and momentum very well. It will be even better if the wheels are allowed to spin (blurred by lower shutter speed). The debris adds to the ovarall effect. The complementatry colours manage to draw the viewer attention. Overall, well done.

Delightfull colors ...

on this shot. And also the contrast between the most yellow bike and the blue background.

Nice taken, John.

A great capture and sharp as a tack too (too sharp?) But I wonder...

Pascal suggested a slow speed to capture movement for the competition. I think this image implies movement and would therefore fit the theme of movement well. So, I pose the question, "Is it not possible to convey movement on a sharp (fast shutter speed) image of an object we know is moving?"

I love this shot. The contrast between the subject and background, which is much exaggerated by one being bathed in full sunlight, the other in shade. Also, of course, the debris; also highlighted by the sun. I also love the spectators. We can't see their faces, yet we can "see" where they are looking.

Does it convey motion? No I don't think so. Rather that feeling of suspended animation that is often recreated in moving pictures (I suppose that sounds perverse). I actually found myself holding my breath trying summon the feeling it suggested to me.

For what it's worth, there is a hint of spin in the front wheel. The back wheel looks locked, yet the chain still looks like its trying to drive the wheel foward.

Snap frozen

I like it as is, John. The contrast between bike and rider (colour and focus) is wonderful. The yellow looks great against the blue grey BG.

I also like the strong yellow/blue colour contrast and the sharpness is amazing (maybe distractingly so). I like good pan shots, so would have preferred to see that here, but also I think that seeing more of the background would set it off better. As it is, it looks constrained by the frame, rather than sitting in it, if you know what I mean. I am being too picky here I think! A good, bold shot.

Best wishes- Andy

Less shutter speed

I would have liked to see a little more motion blur in teh knobbies. Otherwise it tends to look like a model hanging from a string. With a little blur, you get that impression of motion that makes the shot.

Action, Implied

The discussion on showing motion vs implied motion is really moot. It is a great shot either way. Those of us that have ridden these bikes feel the excitement and fear within the image. The strength of the rider comes across well with the legs and arms slightly contracted preparing for the landing.

Wonderful shot, especially at knowing when to depress the shutter release.

Thanks
